Specialist Knowledge for the Teaching of Mathematics - Secondary Teaching Assistants

Are you a Teaching Assistant in a Secondary School that takes a Teaching for Mastery approach? Are you keen to develop your own confidence?
This Work Group is intended to improve the confidence and competence of secondary teaching assistants who support students who are learning mathematics through a Teaching for Mastery approach.
Who can take part?
This programme is designed for secondary teaching assistants who are supporting maths, and who would like to develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths.
What is involved?
For this Work Group, centrally designed resources will be used in local face to face groups. Venue to be confirmed.
As a secondary teaching assistant, you will get the opportunity to participate in sessions designed to enhance your subject knowledge alongside becoming familiar with the 5 Big Ideas of Teaching for Mastery.
During these sessions you will engage with a range of materials including NCETM Checkpoints. You will be expected to put your learning into practice with small groups and/or individuals and/or when supporting individuals in class and to reflect upon outcomes as part of the Work Group.
What will you learn?
Participants will:
review their practice as a result of the sessions and make specific adaptations to support the pupils they are working with.
What is the cost?
The Secondary Teaching Assistants Work Group is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.

Sessions:
All sessions will take place at the Outwood Institute of Education, Tenter Balk Lane, Doncaster, DN6 7EQ on the following dates and times:
Session 1: Tuesday 21st January 2025 (9.30am - 2.30pm)
Session 2: Tuesday 11th February 2025 (9.30am - 2.30pm)
Session 3: Tuesday 18th March 2025 (9.30am - 2.30pm)
Session 4: Friday 13th June 2025 (9.30am - 2.30pm)
