Problem Solving in Teaching for Mastery Classrooms

Project Code: RIWG 24B

Maths Hubs' research and innovation work is intended to be rigorous and influential. These Work Groups will involve collaborative professional learning, developing influence, and growing expertise in leading maths pedagogy and curriculum, leading teacher development, and leading whole-school development of maths.

Who is this for?

This is as a commissioned theme for schools in Primary Sustaining Work Groups so that the topic will be researched in settings where teaching for mastery is well established.

What is involved?

Problem solving should be an integral part of everyday teaching for mastery mathematics lessons and not something that is seen as separate. This Work Group explores what classroom practices, routines and strategies within mathematics lessons support the development of children’s positive attitudes and mindset to problem solving alongside the necessary skills so they will attempt, access and persevere on routine and non-routine problems.

What is the Cost?

This Work Group is fully funded by Maths Hub and is free to participating schools.
