Case Study - A School Using Curriculum Prioritisation in Primary Maths

A primary school maths lead explains how two NCETM resources have come together to ‘revolutionise’ how maths is taught.

When Una Green was asked how teachers in her school were getting on with using the NCETM Prioritisation resource, she didn’t hold back:

“I know this might sound dramatic, but I do actually think it has revolutionised the teaching of maths.”

Una is maths lead and Year 2 teacher at St Richard Reynolds Catholic College in Twickenham, an all-through 4-18 school, with one-form entry at primary school. In this article, she explains how the Curriculum Prioritisation resource has given teachers at her school a route into the rich NCETM mastery materials.

How do I find out more about the resources?

Have you considered using this term-by-term framework to support planning and teaching in 2021/22 and beyond?

This resource provides coherent sequencing for the primary maths curriculum. It draws together the DfE guidance on curriculum prioritisation, with the high quality professional development and classroom resources provided by the NCETM Primary Mastery PD materials.

For each of Years 1-6, there is a mapping of the year's curriculum into around a dozen units. Each unit has a downloadable PowerPoint, with sequenced classroom slides, carrying comprehensive links to pages in the DfE Primary Mathematics Guidance, and to associated pedagogy and professional development in the NCETM Primary Mastery PD materials.
