Charlotte Thornton - Maths Hub Lead I have been involved with Yorkshire and the Humber Maths Hub since 2015 and co-led the Hub from 2019 before becoming the sole Maths Hub lead in 2024. As part of my role, I oversee the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of all Hub activities. I direct the team, ensuring alignment with the Maths Hub's national goals whilst striving to meet the local maths needs in our region. I collaborate closely with the NCETM to drive continuous improvement and success. Additonally, I work as a School Standards and Improvement Partner for Maths for Outwood Grange Academies Trust and feel that it's important for my Maths Hub Lead role to still experience the classroom. Prior to that, I was Head of Maths at an outstanding Catholic School in Lancashire. As a learner of maths myself, I could only be really good at it if I knew where the maths came from. My own learning experience meant that as a teacher I was always passionate about giving the students 'the why' behind the maths to really develop their understanding. Back in 2015, I attended a Shanghai Open Classroom event in the middle of Hull, in a school with 70% disdavantage and high EAL. The programme consists of a blend of online and face-to-face workshops equivalent to three days.
