Primary Mastery Lead Part-Time Deployment Opportunity (1-3 days per week)

Following the very successful first four cohorts of the primary Mastery Specialist programme, the NCETM and Maths Hubs are now seeking to recruit a fifth cohort of expert primary school teachers to develop and work as Primary Mastery (PM) Specialists.

This increase in number of specialists, and therefore the amount of schools engaged in the Teacher Research Groups (TRGs), means a need to extend the Primary Mastery (PM) Leadership of the Yorkshire and the Humber Maths Hub Team.

Therefore we have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Primary Mastery Lead starting in September 2019, to not only enhance their own development, but the development of those that they will aid in their outreach.

 Who Should Apply

The table below shows the essential and desirable criteria for applicants to the programme. This should be evidenced in the application form which includes both the applicant’s statement and the head teacher’s reference.

“Working as a Teaching for Mastery Lead was the ideal next step for me having completed training as a primary teaching for mastery specialist with cohort 1. In 28 years of teaching it has been the most rewarding and interesting. Sharing my newly acquired knowledge and expertise with others has been incredibly enjoyable. I have developed skills in facilitating training, combining these with my leadership skills as a deputy head. It has been a pleasure to visit so many schools and work with teachers, supporting them on their mastery journey”.

How to Apply

Applicants, in conjunction with their head teacher, should download and complete the application form below and submit it to the YH Maths Hub (yhmathshub@outwood.com).

Applicants will receive a confirmation of receipt e-mail when applications are received. Shortlisted applicants will then be contacted with more details about the selection process.

Please note that the closing date for applications is Friday 10th May 2019, with interviews to take place on Wednesday 15th May 2019.

“With the support of the Maths Hub and my Trust, I was luckily enough to further develop my role, as a Primary Mastery Specialist and become a Primary Mastery Lead (PML). Since becoming a PML, I have had the opportunity to work alongside other PMLs from other hubs across the country. I have found this extremely valuable not only to be supported in my role as a PML but also as a teacher and school leader. The wealth of knowledge and shared passion to improve mathematics teaching for all children among the network of PMLs is phenomenal. Through this role, I am continually developing my subject knowledge of mathematics and skills as a facilitator of CPD.

I have found it an immensely rewarding role to be able to work with so many teachers from a range of schools beyond my own trust, and city, to support them with their Teaching for Mastery journey. After being a teacher for 17 years and an Assistant Head for 2 years, I now work across my MAT as a lead practitioner for mathematics”.
